Latest Innovations in Cancer Care Delivery Unveiled at the ACCC’s 37th (Virtual) National Oncology Conference

Rockville, MD – The year’s new and cutting-edge strategies in oncology care will be unveiled at the Association of Community Cancer Care’s 37th National Oncology Conference, held online this year, September 14-18. Oncology care professionals from across the country will convene to discuss the latest improvements and innovations to deliver quality cancer care amidst the challenges of COVID-19. This year’s conference will also have a focus on correcting systemic disparities. Members of the media can attend the conference at no charge.

What: Association of Community Cancer Center’s 37th [Virtual] National Oncology Conference

When: September 14-18, 2020

Where: Online via ACCC’s website.

The virtual conference will feature speakers on hot topics in cancer care, including, post-COVID leadership resilience and addressing the disparity of women in oncology, presentations on new developments in care from ACCC’s 2020 Innovator Award Winners, interactive Q&A discussions, and immersive workshop breakout sessions.

Cancer care professionals can find more information on the conference’s agenda and register to attend the conference on ACCC’s website.

Notable Agenda Highlights:

Featured Speakers:

Featured speakers at the ACCC 37th (Virtual) National Oncology Conference will deliver strategies for challenges facing contemporary oncology care.

Greg Hiebert, Leadership Educator, Coach, and Consultant

Leadership Resilience and Post Traumatic Growth

Greg Hiebert will show cancer care professionals how to remain calm, confident, and courageous during great storms, difficulties, and adversities. Attendees will come away with resources they can use to help their colleagues, teams, and organizations be more resilient, and use adversity as a means to be stronger, more focused, and compassionate.

Nick Smith-Stanley, MBA, Associate Director of Administration & Strategic Planning, LIVESTRONG Cancer Institutes, Dell Medical School

Closing Keynote: Addressing the Disparity of Women in Oncology

Attendees will learn about the Summer Healthcare Experience (SHE) in Oncology program, which hosts high school students in a week-long, immersion program that introduces them to cancer biology, research, survivorship, and care. The SHE program is the first-of-its-kind to specifically address the disparity of women in oncology. Led by Dell Med faculty, staff, cancer survivors, and community organizations, the students undergo leadership exercises and training based on an underlying theme of overcoming the challenges they will face as women in medicine, oncology, and academics.

2020 ACCC Innovator Award Program:

During the National Oncology Conference, ACCC will present its tenth-annual Innovator Awards to forward- thinking cancer programs members who have created innovative and replicable solutions in the areas of care coordination and quality improvement, technology solutions, patient engagement, staffing models, and the provision of supportive care services– while demonstrating the real-world impact on the delivery of cost-effective, patient-centered care. Details on the winning programs are available here.

Each presentation will include a discussion with the program champion, senior administrator or lead physician, on why they supported the innovation and how they procured buy-in and/or dedicated funds/resources for this improvement. Attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in live Q&A sessions with these speakers and program champions to learn how to replicate these innovations at their own institutions.
