ROCKVILLE, MD. – Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC ) President Jennie R. Crews, MD, MMM, FACP, will join leaders representing the entire cancer community—including researchers, oncologists, nurses and other care providers, data and technology experts, philanthropists, advocates, patients, and survivors in the Cancer Moonshot Summit on Wednesday, June 29, 2016, in Washington, D.C.
The summit is aimed at creating action and fostering collaborations around the goals of the Cancer Moonshot initiative, headed by Vice President Joe Biden. In January, President Obama signed a Presidential Memorandum establishing the Cancer Moonshot Task Force, and the administration has also announced a new $1 billion initiative to jumpstart the Cancer Moonshot.
The Cancer Moonshot Summit will be the very first time that stakeholders representing all types of cancers will convene under one national charge. The participants are among the best-positioned individuals and organizations to discuss how cancer affects them, share input for the Cancer Moonshot, generate ideas about how individuals and organizations can better engage in the national effort, and create ideas for new collaborations and actions.
“I am honored to participate in the Cancer Moonshot Summit and have the opportunity to represent the membership of ACCC who care for 65% of the nation’s cancer patients,” said Dr. Crews. “It’s vital to ensure that the voice of those on the frontlines of cancer care delivery be included in this transformative conversation.”
